까떼리나 발란테(Caterina Valente) 가수, 배우 출생 1931년 1월 14일 (Paris, France) 국적 : 이탈리아 '까떼리나 발렌떼(Caterina Valente)'는 프랑스어 이태리어 독일어 영어 스페인어 스웨덴어 등 6개국어로 녹음을 하는 다국적 아티스트로서 '노래하는 통역'이라는 애칭를 갖고있는데, 그녀는 1931년 1월 14일 프랑스 파리에서 이탈리아계 어머니와 스페인계 아버지 사이에서 태어나 주로 독일에서 활동한 이탈리아 국적의 가수이다. 그녀는 11남매 중 열번째로 태어 났는데 그녀의 부모는 두 분이 다 연예인으로, 아버지 Giuseppe는 아코디온 연주자, 어머니인 Maria Valente는 뮤지컬 광대였다. 그녀 부모가 연예인이었던 관계로 다섯살 때 이미 귀엽고 깜찍한 모습으로 어머니와 함께 무대에 서서 춤추고 노래하여 많은 관객들로부터 갈채를 받았다고 한다. 그후 Caterina Valente는 노래하는 귀여운 천사로서 순식간에 파리 전역에 알려졌으며 가족과 함께 독일 이탈리아 스페인 러시아 등의 지역을 순회하며 성장기를 보내게 되었다. 소녀 시절의 그런 행복한 방랑생활은 평생토록 그녀의 삶 속에 비치는 화사한 태양의 축복과도 같은 것이었지만 까떼리나도 대스타가 되기까지는 우여곡절도 많았고 오랜 세월이 필요하기도 하였다. 1950년대초 어느날 그녀가 스웨덴 수도 Stockholm의 어느 작은 무대에서 노래하고 있을 무렵, 당시 서독의 인기 Bandmaster였던 클라우드 에델하겐이 발견하였고, 그런 인연으로 까떼리나는 Edelhagen의 전속가수가 되었으며, 그와 함께 서독 주둔 미군들을 상대로 무대에서 위문공연을 하게 되었는데 이때부터 Caterina Valente는 미군들 사이에 선풍적인 인기를 끌게 된다. 인기의 여세로 그녀의 나이 23세 때, 마침내 레코드사와 계약을 하기에 이르게 되고, 1954년 당대 최고 오케스트라였던 Ricardo Santos Orchestra와 콤비로 Malaguena, The Breez and I, Granada 등 라틴 음악을 담은 레코드를 발표함으로써 독일 대중 음악계의 상징적인 존재가 되었다. Caterina Valente는 칼멘의 후예와 같은 강한 체취가 풍기는 매혹적인 용모와 신선한 목소리, 고음과 저음사이를 자연스럽게 오가는 전이법의 기교가 빛나는 Istanble, Kiss of Fire 등 수많은 라틴 음악 계열의 레퍼토리를 전세계에 퍼뜨리면서 세계인의 사랑을 받게 되었고 그녀를 '라틴 음악의 여왕'이라는 칭송를 받고있다. Caterina Valente (born January 14, 1931 in Paris) is a singer, dancer, and actress. She comes from an Italian artist family; her father Giuseppe was a well-known accordion player, her mother, Maria Valente, a musical clown. She had three siblings, of whom Silvio Francesco was also active in show business. In 1952 she married juggler Erik van Aro (Gerd Eric Horst Scholz). He recognized her talent and accompanied her in her initial years of worldwide success, although they later divorced. In 1953, she made her first recordings with Kurt Edelhagen. Soon afterwards she achieved great success with songs such as "Malagueña", "The Breeze and I", and "Dreh dich nicht um" with the Werner Müller orchestra. In 1955 she was featured on the "Colgate Comedy Hour" with Gordon MacRae. In the mid-1960s, Caterina worked with the legendary Claus Ogerman and recorded material in both Italian and English that he arranged/conducted and/or composed on the Decca and London labels. Between 1966 and 1972 she was a frequent guest on the Dean Martin Show. In 1972, she married the British pianist Roy Budd; they had a son, Alexander, but they divorced in 1979. In Germany she was a major performer of Schlager music. There she recorded Cole Porter's "I love Paris" i.e. "Ganz Paris träumt von der Liebe", which sold more than 500,000 copies in (1954.) Over the years, she has recorded or performed with many international stars, including Louis Armstrong, Benny Goodman, Ella Fitzgerald, Woody Herman, the Tommy Dorsey Orchestra, Buddy Rich, Sy Oliver, Claus Ogerman, and Chet Baker. In 1959 she was nominated for a Grammy Award. Valente was a regular on the short-lived CBS variety series The Entertainers (1964-65). In 2001, she released a new album Girltalk with harpist Catherine Michel.
