'Indian Lament'는 원래 Dvorak이 1892년부터 미국에 머무를때 미국에서 받은 인상으로 교향곡 New World와 첼로곡을 썼는데,
그때 작곡한 첼로 소나타(Sonatina for Cello & piano in G major, Op.100 B.183)의 2악장으로
크라이슬러(Fritz Kreisler)가 바이올린 소나타(Sonatina for violin & piano)로 편곡하면서 붙여진 이름이다.
크라이슬러는 느리며 아메리카 인디언의 선율을 바탕으로 하고 있어 이 곡의 제목을 'Indian Lament'라고 붙였다 한다.
